Roridula

The dewsticks

Roridula, or dewsticks, are large herbaceous carnivorous plants endemic to the Cape of South Africa. They utilise a resinous dew to trap prey. Unlike Drosera, they can not digest prey themselves, relying on symbiotic assassin bugs to eat they prey and excrete nutrient-rich feces which the plant absorbs. Two species exist: Roridula gorgonias in the moist coastal mountains in the Southern Cape, and Roridula dentata in the drier mountains inland.
